Recruitment consultancies signalled another modest rise in permanent staff placements during May is reported by the REC and KPMG monthly UK labour market data and analysis report for June. Specifically looking at salaries on the survey pointed out that the permanent salaries for 'successful candidates placed in permanent jobs increased during May. The South of England posted a solid rise in salaries, while marginal increases were recorded in London and the North. The Midlands saw a moderate fall in salaries.'
Temp/contract pay rates
Hourly rates of pay for short-term staff increased for the fifth month running in May. However, the latest rise was only marginal and the slowest in that sequence. Those panellists that noted higher temp pay commonly attributed this to the effect of Agency Worker Regulations.
Slight increases in temp pay were signalled in the Midlands and the South, but London and the North saw marginal falls.
